WAYNESBORO, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate who escaped from custody in east Georgia has been recaptured.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1CE62aA) that the inmate, a burglary suspect, was taken from the Burke County Jail to the Burke County Medical Center to be evaluated around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. A short time later, hospital officials called Waynesboro police to report that the inmate had escaped from a temporary holding cell.

Waynesboro officers and deputies from Burke and Richmond counties then began searching the area.



Authorities say that shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday, the inmate was found on Jones Avenue, within a mile of the hospital. He was arrested without incident and returned to the Burke County Jail.
