BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A federal judge has ruled in favor of plaintiffs in two federal lawsuits against North Dakota’s constitutional ban on gay marriage.
U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson issued the ruling on Monday, saying the state’s ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional and invalid. The state did not oppose the plaintiffs’ motion.
The ruling comes in the wake of a U.S. Supreme Court decision that says same-sex couples have the right to marry nationwide.
The Supreme Court issued its ruling on Friday, and some North Dakota counties began issuing same-sex marriage licenses the same day.
