NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The U.S. Supreme Court has revived a Norfolk company’s lawsuit challenging the city’s sign ordinance.

The justices on Monday sent Central Radio Co.’s case back to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which rejected the company’s claim in January.

In 2012, Central Radio displayed a large banner criticizing the government’s attempt to use eminent domain to take the company’s building for use by Old Dominion University. The city cited the company for displaying an oversized sign and failing to obtain permission. The company claims the city’s action violates its free speech rights.

The justices sent the case back for reconsideration in light of their recent ruling in another sign ordinance case from Arizona.
