COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - A 46-year-old western Iowa teacher accused of sexually abusing a student has taken a plea deal.

Online court records say Barret Glasnapp pleaded guilty on Tuesday to two counts of sex abuse and two counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee. Prosecutors dropped several other counts in exchange for Glasnapp’s pleas. His trial had been scheduled to begin Tuesday in Pottawattamie County District Court in Council Bluffs.

Glasnapp had taught at Underwood Middle School in Underwood.

Authorities say Glasnapp’s sexual interaction with the girl began in 2011 when the student was 14 and continued until October. She was a student of Glasnapp from 2009 until 2012.

The headlines for this story have been corrected to show the case didn’t involve sex with a student.
