ANKENY, Iowa (AP) - A paramedic has helped a suburban Des Moines woman with the home delivery of her baby son.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1ROk94i ) that Kosha McLean’s contractions started about 6 a.m. Monday at her home in Ankeny and progressed so rapidly she knew she and her husband, Stacy, wouldn’t make it to a hospital on time.

Paramedic Justin Vander Leest and other first responders soon arrived, and he stepped up to help in what was his first baby delivery in a seven-year career.

The so-far-unnamed boy has a 2-year-old brother waiting at home to play with him.

Stacy McLean says he and his wife “were not planning a home birth. That was for sure.”
