PALMYRA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say an 81-year-old woman apparently was killed by her husband days before both of their bodies were found after a fire at their western New York apartment.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says Constance Edell had cuts on her body and was dead before firefighters found her body Sunday night at the Park Hill apartments in the town of Palmyra, 20 miles southeast of Rochester.

Police say her husband, 82-year-old Donald Edell, also had cuts on his body. Official say he apparently was alive when the fire started but his wife may have been dead up to five days.

Investigators believe the couple inflicted the cuts on each other during a fight.

Deputies say Constance Edell had last been seen alive last Tuesday. Her husband had been seen before the fire started.
