DARIEN, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 52-year-old man has died and a 7-year-old girl is recovering after their all-terrain vehicle crashed in a western New York field.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office says James Lipinski of the town of Darien was riding a side-by-side ATV in his hometown around 7 p.m. Wednesday when he crashed at the bottom of a hill.

The girl was able to reach a nearby farm for help. The farmer called 911 and helped police find the crash scene, where Lipinski was pronounced dead by the county coroner.

Police say Lipinski was partially ejected and then partially trapped under the ATV’s roll-bar frame.

Officials say the girl was a family acquaintance of Lipinski’s. She was treated for minor injuries.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
