RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — Three teenagers who are reputed members of the MS-13 street gang have been ordered held without bail on charges they raped a 16-year-old girl in the wooded area of a Long Island golf course.

Attorneys for the three suspects entered not guilty pleas Friday at their arraignment on a grand jury indictment charging them with rape, assault, robbery and other crimes.

The three suspects were identified as 17-year-old Jose Cornejo, 18-year-old Bryan Larios and 17-year-old Joel Escobar.

An attorney for Larios denied his client was involved. Cornejo’s attorney said he is just beginning to investigate the charges and Escobar’s attorney had no comment.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota calls the attack a “brutal, barbaric” act. He says the allegations are among the worst he has ever seen.
