XENIA, Ohio — A semitrailer carrying 2,200 pigs has overturned on an Ohio highway.

Numerous agencies worked to corral the animals after the crash Monday night on U.S. Route 35 in Xenia Township, near Dayton. Crews picked up the squealing pigs by their hind legs. It’s unclear how many were loose. A number of pigs were killed in the crash.

Authorities say the driver of the semitrailer lost control and slammed into a guardrail. Two people were inside the truck at the time of the collision. One was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The live pigs were taken to the Greene County Fairgrounds to be cared for.
