BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Baton Rouge police responding early Sunday to reports of a traffic accident instead found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1DGrCxm ) the victim was found around 1:45 a.m. Police identified him as 24-year-old Eddie Simon Jr.
Police said their investigation indicates Simon was standing in his front yard when an unknown gunman walked up and fired several shots, striking him in the head, before fleeing.
A motive for the shooting was unknown.
