BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Nick Norton scored 11, and Robert Brown’s jumper with 19 seconds left proved to be the game winner as fourth-seeded UAB beat No. 5 seed Western Kentucky 53-52 in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA tournament on Thursday night.

Brown finished with nine points for UAB (17-15), which will face top-seeded Louisiana Tech in the semifinals on Friday.

George Fant scored five during a 10-3 run which gave Western Kentucky (20-12) a 50-46 lead with two minutes left.

Brown made a pair of free throws to pull the Blazers within two, but Western Kentucky’s Ben Lawson answered with a layup and the Hilltoppers led by four with 1:15 to play.

A 3-pointer by Norton pulled UAB within one and, after a Western Kentucky turnover, Brown’s jumper made it 53-52.

Fant led Western Kentucky with 18 points. Chris Harrison-Docks missed a potential winning 3 at the buzzer.
