EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. (AP) - Never mind that Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is already a little thin on top. He’s going to “Brave the Shave” for childhood cancer research.

The four-term statewide officeholder will join Evergreen Park Mayor Jim Sexton and Evergreen Park School District 124 Superintendent Robert Machak and others for the event Friday.

The St. Baldrick’s Brave the Shave Chicago Area Schools Challenge supports childhood cancer research.

White and his soon-to-be-bald brethren will meet at Southwest Elementary School in Evergreen Park. The school is one of nearly 100 to participate in the event.

Students, faculty and communities come together to raise funds for the largest non-governmental funder of childhood cancer grants worldwide.
