NEW YORK (AP) - Police say NYPD officers tried to ticket a double-parked car and discovered a secret compartment full of drugs, cash and a gun.

The plainclothes officers were on patrol in Brooklyn at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday when they spotted a man running toward a double-parked car.

The officers tried to ticket the car but the driver sped off.

According to the NYPD, the officers stopped the car and saw a burning marijuana cigar inside it.

Police say the car’s center console had a hollow chamber that contained a loaded semiautomatic handgun, 410 envelopes of heroin, 131 bags of crack cocaine, one bag of marijuana, two cellphones, ammunition and $977 in cash.

Twenty-three-year-old Steven Lopez of Staten Island was arrested on drug and weapons charges.

It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
