SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 Victor has died due to a medical condition.

Sgt. Chris Bane says the Belgian Malinois was more than 10 years old and had been diagnosed as being in the early stages of kidney and liver failure. He also had an enlarged heart.

Sheriff Steve Prator says Victor died Wednesday at the North Shreveport Animal Hospital, where he was being treated.

Victor was purchased by the sheriff’s office in 2007 and worked a dual purpose - patrol work and narcotics detection.

Burial plans are pending for Victor, who will be buried at the sheriff’s office K-9 Rest cemetery at the Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy.
