FALMOUTH, Mass. (AP) - A Falmouth man who was driving drunk when he crashed his car and killed his two passengers has avoided jail time after pleading guilty.

The Cape Cod Times (https://bit.ly/1bhkjTE ) reports that 24-year-old Matthew Laughead received a one-year suspended sentence and a year of probation after pleading guilty Wednesday in Falmouth District Court to motor vehicle homicide and operating under the influence.

The October 2011 crash killed his cousin, Bryan Laughead, and friend, 28-year-old James Duffany. The three men had been celebrating Bryan Laughead’s 38th birthday.

Rescuers who responded to the scene found Bryan Laughead in a nearby yard, Duffany in the back seat and Matthew Laughead partially ejected. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Matthew Laughead said he wasn’t driving.
