HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - The Garland County sheriff’s office says an 18-year-old Hot Springs woman has been arrested and charged after authorities say she admitted she abandoned her newborn son on a neighbor’s doorstep.

Fabiola Torres-Onate has been charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. She has been released on a $2,500 bond. It wasn’t immediately clear if she has an attorney.

Authorities say a homeowner found the baby wrapped in a blanket on her front porch on March 9. The baby is now in the custody of the Arkansas Department of Human Services.

According to an affidavit, Torres-Onate had told investigators that she had hidden her pregnancy from her family. She says she was scared and didn’t know what to do before leaving her son on her neighbor’s porch.
