CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Piedmont Natural Gas wants to cut the cost for its customers.

The Charlotte Observer reported (https://bit.ly/1H5lSRM) that Piedmont has asked the North Carolina Utilities Commission for a one-time credit on customers’ bills that could save them about $35 next month.

The company said in a statement it thinks the one-time credit would get money to customers more quickly than a reduction in rates.

Piedmont previously had received approval to lower customer bills for each of the past three months because of falling natural gas prices.

The company says the latest request is based on a further drop in natural gas costs, as well as lower transportation and storage costs.
