TARBORO, N.C. (AP) - Another person has died from injuries suffered in a shooting spree in Tarboro, bringing the death toll to four, including the suspected killer.

Tarboro police Sgt. Jesse Webb said Ventura Sanchez, 36, died Sunday of injuries suffered in a shooting Saturday at a mobile home park. Sanchez was found in a car and taken to Vidant Edgecombe Hospital, where he died.

Ana Marlen Cruz-Franco, 28, was found dead in a home at the park. Earlier Saturday, George Lee Dickens Jr., 36, was shot and killed at a barber shop.

Witnesses told police that an acquaintance approached him inside Master’s Touch Barber Shop, where Dickens worked, and fatally shooting Dickens, Webb said.

Police found the man suspected in the shootings, 40-year-old Ian Sherrod, in his truck with a gun. Police said they tried to get him to surrender. But he got out of the truck and pointed the gun at officers, who shot and killed him.

The State Bureau of Investigation will review the shooting of Sherrod, which is standard protocol for an officer-involved shooting. A Tarboro police officer and an Edgecombe County deputy were placed on paid administrative leave regarding Sherrod’s death, which also is standard procedure, media outlets reported. Their names were not immediately released.

Authorities said their investigation, including for a motive, continued. WRAL-TV reported that property records show Sherrod lived next-door to Sanchez and Cruz-Franco.

Friends and family remembered Dickens as someone who cared about the community.

“That was just a big tragedy for him to shoot George like that because George wasn’t a type of guy like that, you know,” said Dwight Hopkins, a friend of Dickens. “George was good with the kids, you know, good with everybody.”
