ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) - The sentencing of a man convicted of sexually assaulting men he met at beer pong events has been postponed.
A Montgomery County judge granted a continuance Friday after hearing some testimony at the sentencing hearing for 40-year-old Joey Poindexter. He will now be sentenced on April 15.
Prosecutors have said in court documents that Poindexter is believed to have assaulted at least 30 men. He was convicted of assaulting five men.
Prosecutors are asking for a 200-year sentence. Poindexter’s attorney requested a continuance on Friday, saying she needed time to study the case. Attorney Rebecca Nitkin only recently started representing Poindexter after he fired his previous lawyers.
Authorities say Poindexter met several of his victims at beer pong tournaments, including one at a bar in College Park.
