PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County authorities have accused a Cave Creek woman of animal hoarding.

County Sheriff’s officials say a dead cat also was found in the home of 67-year-old Lucille Willis.

The sheriff’s animal crime detectives say they received a tip that Willis allegedly was keeping animals in unsafe living conditions at her house.

Detectives say they found 20 cats and three dogs suffering various medical conditions and rooms filled with trash and debris.

Authorities say Willis was being held on suspicion of 23 counts of misdemeanor charges for failing to provide adequate shelter and 23 counts of misdemeanor charges for failing to provide necessary medical care.

It was unclear Thursday if she has a lawyer yet.
