ST. LOUIS (AP) - The former treasurer of a St. Louis-area elementary school’s parent-teacher organization is accused of stealing nearly $35,000.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1B7FM6A) reports that 33-year-old Winifred Wright is charged with a felony stealing count.
Authorities say that during three years as treasurer of Sappington Elementary School’s PTO, Wright stole the funds that was supposed to pay for school outings and visits with Santa Claus.
The newspaper reports that when contacted by the group about irregularities with the bank account, Wright’s husband told them his wife had abruptly left town and he did not know where she was.
Wright remained at large Thursday.
She does not have a listed home telephone number, and online court records do not list an attorney who can speak on her behalf.
