MADAWASKA, Maine (AP) - Police in northern Maine have arrested a man they say broke into a home and stole medical marijuana just hours after one of the residents had died in a car crash.
Madawaska Police Chief Carroll Theriault (TEHR’-ee-oh) announced Thursday that 26-year-old Kevin Dufour has been charged with burglary and theft of drugs for allegedly breaking into the Madawaska home of Robert and Kim Lausier (LOH’-zee-ay) on March 9.
Kim Lausier, who was pregnant, died in the crash on Route 161 in Stockholm, while her husband was severely injured. Three people in another vehicle, including a 2-year-old child, also died.
The chief says a tip from a witness led to Dufour.
Dufour denied the charges when interviewed by police.
He has been freed on $3,000 bail and is due in court April 21.
