LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Portuguese leader Benfica lost 2-1 at Rio Ave before nearest chaser FC Porto also stumbled with a 1-1 draw at Nacional on Saturday.
The results left Benfica three points ahead of Porto with eight rounds to go.
Eduardo Salvio put Benfica ahead in the fifth minute.
But substitute Andre “Ukra” Alves converted a penalty in the 74th, after Benfica’s Andreas Samaris handled the ball in the area.
Benfica lost defender Luisao to a red card in the 85th for fouling Tiago Pinto, and Yonathan Del Valle completed Rio Ave’s comeback in stoppage time.
It was Benfica’s first league loss since Jan. 26.
Porto’s Cristian Tello struck from long range in the 45th, only for Wagner to go on in the 59th and equalize for Nacional three minutes later.
