SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police in Vermont say a South Burlington police lieutenant has been placed on administrative leave after being charged with driving under the influence.
South Burlington Police Chief Trevor Whipple says Lt. Jeffrey Martel has been placed on administrative leave after crashing his car early Sunday morning in Colchester and being charged with operating under the influence of alcohol.
Whipple says he considers it a serious allegation and that his department is conducting an internal investigation.
Martel, who joined the South Burlington police department in 1997, most recently has been the department’s prevention services manager.
Whipple declined to elaborate.
Martel could not be reached for comment. It was not immediately known whether he has a lawyer.
