WEST ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - Two Long Island hospitals that suffered damage during Superstorm Sandy are set to receive multimillion dollar hazard mitigation grants from the federal government.
Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center and Our Lady of Consolation nursing home in West Islip are poised to receive $20.1 million in FEMA funds. Southside Hospital in Bay Shore is to receive $23.7 million.
Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1Oq6pxx ) says the money will be used to lift emergency generators, protect electrical infrastructure and sealing the perimeters off to flooding.
The FEMA funds for both hospitals were recommended by the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery, which helps administer the federal program. The federal agency will fund 75 percent of the projects, the state the rest.
