HOUMA, La. (AP) - Terrebonne Parish sheriff’s deputies say an Ashland woman has been arrested in the shooting death of her live-in boyfriend.

Deputies tell The Courier (https://bit.ly/1CgKPqd ) 32-year-old Michael Jerome Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene late Saturday night.

Captain Dawn Foret says 32-year-old Schwann Williams was booked with manslaughter after she told deputies she shot Stewart during a dispute.

Although Stewart allegedly attacked Williams, Foret said the evidence gathered during the investigation warranted a manslaughter charge.

If convicted of manslaughter, Williams will face up to 40 years in prison.

Williams was taken to the Terrebonne Parish jail, where she awaits a bond hearing.

Officials couldn’t provide the name of a defense attorney to comment on the charge.
