GARY, Ind. (AP) - A spring snowstorm has snarled roads in northwestern Indiana.

Indiana State Police and county sheriff’s departments say they responded to numerous crashes, spinouts and slide-offs Monday morning in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.

Porter County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Larry LaFlower tells The (Munster) Times “there’s crashes all over the place.” He says a “sleet/rain/snow mix” created hazardous driving conditions in the northern part of the county.

Crashes closed several lanes of Interstates 80/94 in Lake County.

LaPorte County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Adams says a car rear-ended a school bus carrying 33 students as it waited to turn into a school. No one was injured.

National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Birk said he expected about 2 to 3 inches of snow to fall in Lake and Porter counties by noon Monday.
