PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Police in Portland say they have taken into custody a reportedly suicidal man whose condition prompted a brief closure of the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 at the bridge between Oregon and Washington.
Sgt. Pete Simpson said the man would be taken to a Portland hospital for a mental evaluation. Crisis negotiators spoke to the man by phone and persuaded him to seek treatment.
Northbound I-5 traffic was diverted off the freeway before the bridge for a little more than an hour Wednesday afternoon.
