Tuesday was a bad day for law enforcement as two police officers were killed in the line of duty.

A San Jose, California, officer was shot and killed while responding to a call about a man threatening to commit suicide. But when police responded to the scene and approached an apartment building, someone opened fire, striking one of the officers.

Police were still searching for the shooter early Wednesday morning.

A Wisconsin State Patrol officer was also killed during a shootout with a bank robbery suspect in Fond du Lac. Police said the suspect, who was also killed during the shootout, was believed to have killed a motorist earlier in the day.

This story is based in part on wire service reports.
