RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Authorities have captured a convicted sex offender who escaped for four hours from a treatment facility in Richmond.
Police tell media outlets that 54-year-old Robert Hanna fled on foot around 8:23 a.m. Thursday after assaulting a guard at the Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation. He was recaptured after he was found under the crawl space of a residence and police flushed him out with a member of their K-9 unit.
The escape prompted two schools in the area to go on lockdown as precaution.
The Virginia Sex Offender Registry shows that Hanna was convicted in 1979 of abduction in York County. He also was convicted of rape and attempted rape in Newport News. He was sent to the treatment facility after he completed his sentence in January 2014.
