THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A man originally charged with second-degree murder in his brother’s Dec. 30 death in Lafourche Parish has been released from jail after pleading guilty to negligent homicide.

The Daily Comet reports (https://bit.ly/19TBvhC) 30-year-old Johuan Gasery, of Vacherie, was sentenced Friday to 79 days in jail, which he had already served.

His attorney, Brad Naquin, said Gasery is also on probation for a year after shooting 22-year-old Rashaud Gasery.

District Attorney Cam Morvant II said his office decided to reduce Johuan Gasery’s charge after investigating the incident further and conducting additional interviews with the family.

Morvant said the shooting was more accidental than intentional.
