MONROE, Mich. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a 25-year-old Monroe woman left her three young sons in a car while she used a computer at the library.

The Monroe Police Department says the children, ages 6, 4 and 2, were left alone Monday afternoon for about 12 minutes in a vehicle outside the Dorsch Memorial Branch Library. Police say the window was rolled down despite below-freezing temperatures.

The department says the 6-year-old boy and a witness inside the library called police.

The woman explained to police that her children were being disruptive in the library and she was afraid she would be kicked out before finishing her financial paperwork.

The children were released back to their mother, who could face unattended child and child abuse charges.
