SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A new performing arts center set to open in downtown Salt Lake City next year has already booked its first Broadway show.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1IArYr9) city and county officials announced Thursday that performances of “The Lion King” will be held the new George S. and Doré Eccles Theater in spring of 2017.

The under-construction $116 million performing arts center is scheduled to open in the fall of 2016.

Renderings show it includes the 2,500-seat theater and several street-facing terraces and a plaza that designers hope will attract visitors and nightlife.
