RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California man has been convicted of murdering his grandmother, whose body was never found.
The Riverside County jury found 23-year-old Kyle McLean guilty on Monday after two hours of deliberations.
McLean admitted to the killing on the witness stand but said it wasn’t premeditated. He said he had been using drugs and described the killing as an “out-of-body experience.”
He says he remembers putting her body in a plastic bin and shoving it off a cliff somewhere in the San Bernardino mountains.
Prosecutors say the grandmother, 71-year-old Catherine Sutton, allowed her drug-addicted grandson to live with her, but he killed her in July, 2013.
The defense had asked the jury to find McLean guilty of involuntary manslaughter, saying he snapped at relentless nagging and aggression from his grandmother.
