ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Members of more than 30 advocacy groups are gathering in Albany to urge lawmakers and other public officials to protect and preserve New York’s state parks.

Tuesday is the ninth annual Park Advocacy Day, organized by Parks & Trails New York and the Alliance for New York State Parks. Representatives from the two organizations will be joined by members of friends groups and others interested in the well-being of state-run parks and historic sites.

The gathering comes a day after the Cuomo administration unveiled a plan to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on upgrades to the state parks system by the end of the decade.

Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey announced at Saratoga Spa State Park on Monday that the state plans to invest $900 million through 2020.
