BUXTON, Maine (AP) - Maine police say eight people have been indicted in connection with a scheme to steal guns and trade them for heroin.

A joint state, county and federal investigation began in November after two men and a woman were arrested in connection with burglaries in York, Cumberland and Oxford counties. One of the homes hit belonged to a gun collector who had a number of high-powered firearms.

Police say those three suspects sold the guns in Buxton for money and heroin.

About 20 weapons were recovered in raids on homes in Buxton and Limington, but police say 15 remain unaccounted for. It is believed they were sold for drugs in Massachusetts.

The suspects, all from York County, range in age from 19 to 54.
