BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - Bay City officials plan to shut down a 19-year-old playground on the city’s west side and are planning a new, modern play structure in the city.

City Manager Rick Finn tells The Bay City Times (https://bit.ly/1Kqlyzw ) that Imagination Station, a wooden playground at Veterans Memorial Park, won’t be open this spring after snow melts. He cited liability issues that require excessive repairs for the decision.

Finn says there are “too many concerns over the physical condition of the playground.”

The structure has deteriorated over the years and has been vandalized. Darwin Baranski, the city’s parks manager, says it’s “almost out-lived its lifespan.”

City officials are working with the Bay Area Community Foundation to see a new playground built in the city. They’ll unveil the early stages of plans this month.
