BANGOR, Maine (AP) - The jury is deliberating in the trial of a Maine man charged with using Facebook to lure a teenager to her death in a failed plot to look like a hero.

Twenty-one-year-old Kyle Dube (DOO’-bee), of Orono, is charged with kidnapping and murdering high school sophomore Nichole Cable of Glenburn. Police have said Dube intended to stage a kidnapping of Nichole so he could “find” her and be hailed as a hero. She died of asphyxiation.

WZON-AM reports Friday defense attorneys closed by saying there is reasonable doubt that Dube committed the crimes. Prosecutors say DNA evidence links Dube to Nichole’s disappearance and death.

The trial began Feb. 23. An ex-girlfriend of Dube’s and some fellow inmates testified during the trial that Dube told them he killed Nicole.
