DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a Durango man to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted sexual assault on a child and to contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Lawrence Berry told the judge God was punishing him for ignoring God before he was sentenced on Thursday.
Judge Suzanne Carlson told Berry the 12-year sentence will make it easier for the children he assaulted to know that Berry is in prison and can’t get at them.
According to the Durango Herald (https://tinyurl.com/l8mfggk), Berry’s public defender argued for a six-year sentence, saying Berry was extremely remorseful and emotional about what happened.
