EASTON, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania’s attorney general has ruled that last year’s fatal shooting of a suspect by a police officer in the city of Easton was justified.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane said Friday that the Oct. 24 shooting of 39-year-old Richard Scheuermann was justified because he endangered the lives of police officers and others.

Police say they pursued Scheuermann after seeing him driving the wrong way on a Palmer Township road. Scheuermann repeatedly rammed his truck into a police car and was shot twice. Scheuermann then stabbed himself in the neck with a pocket knife.

An autopsy found he died of both gunshot and stab wounds.

His family has said that police didn’t have to shoot Scheuermann.
