COVENTRY, R.I. (AP) - Coventry police have arrested a man they say drove 70 mph on snow-covered roads after he fled a traffic stop.

Police say 35-year-old Brandon Mott, of Coventry, was charged Thursday with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and other violations including eluding police.

Police say they received a report of a silver station wagon almost hitting another vehicle head on Thursday night.

Police say they stopped Mott on Main Street, but he sped off when officers approached.

Officers stopped pursuing when Mott’s car reached 70 miles per hour just before he hit a telephone pole.

Mott was treated for minor injuries.

He was arraigned and referred to the public defender’s office Friday.
