SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A teacher assistant in Spartanburg County has been accused of having sex with a student.

Twenty-five-year-old Christopher Lynn Drake of Cowpens has been charged with sexual battery with a student.

Spartanburg County District 3 spokeswoman Sherri Horton told local reporters that Drake has been suspended without pay from his job at the Daniel Morgan Technology Center. It was not clear if Drake has an attorney.

Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Bobo said a female student told investigators Wednesday that she had sex with Drake in a vehicle at his home last year.

Drake also was an assistant coach for track and boys basketball at Broome High School.

Horton says that school officials had begun the investigation earlier this week after getting an anonymous tip.

Drake had worked with the district since 2013.
