WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Warwick police are warning residents about three men posing as water department employees so they can rob homes.

Police say on Thursday evening three men showed up at an elderly couple’s home and said they were there to check for rust in the water supply. Two of the men distracted the residents, while the third began to rummage through their belongings.

When one of the residents realized what was happening, she asked the men to leave, which they did. The home’s residents were not harmed.

Police are now looking for three white men, all about 40 years of age, driving a dark SUV.

Residents are also being told to demand identity verification from any utility worker seeking access to their home.
