PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell has fired a deputy after learning he made threatening remarks and racial slurs in an audio recording during an Xbox Live gaming session.

The Sun Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1BgyAIr ) Ezell identified the deputy as Michael Slater, a patrol officer with the Sheriff’s Department for three years. He said Friday that Slater was terminated as soon as the incident was brought to his attention.

In a copy of the audio provided to the Sun Herald, Slater can be heard identifying himself as a law enforcement officer, and giving his name and badge number. Slater and a man identified as David were heard using voice chat while playing an online game and they began to exchange heated words including the N-word.
