A Michigan Planet Fitness canceled a woman’s membership after she campaigned to get a transgender person, whom she described as “a man,” booted from the women’s locker room.

“The manner in which this member expressed her concerns about the policy exhibited behavior that management at the Midland club deemed inappropriate and disruptive to other members,” said a statement from the Planet Fitness gym in Midland County, Mich.

The gym called the woman’s actions a “violation of the membership agreement” and the chain’s policy of a “no judgment zone.”

The biggest disruption, the gym said, was that the woman refused to stop telling fellow members that there was a man in the woman’s locker room and campaigned for the other members to join her side.

But the woman, Yvette Cormier, believes she was unfairly punished.

“I was stunned and shocked,” she told local television station WNEM. “He looked like a man…He did not look like a woman.”

Ms. Cormier called the gym’s actions “very unprofessional” and “very scary.”
