SEATTLE (AP) - A Seattle Fire Department spokesman says a dramatic fire that sent up plumes of black smoke visible for miles has destroyed two West Seattle homes and extensively damaged a third. No injuries were reported.
Spokesman Kyle Moore says about 100 firefighters responded late Thursday afternoon. He says four people escaped safely from two of the houses; no one was home at the third house.
Crews faced a challenge getting sufficient water to the fire. Moore says the closest hydrant was “two football fields away” and water pressure diminished when firefighters tried to run multiple hoses off the same hydrant. Seattle Public Utilities was called in to increase the water pressure.
Moore says investigators are still determining a damage estimate. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
