NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) - Officials in a Massachusetts town are eyeing a solar power project for a former gravel site the town owns and they’ve excluded two other locations from consideration in the process.

The Sun Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1OKL98o ) the LeStage property has been deemed too far from North Attleboro Electric’s main distribution lines, making it too costly. A study of a former landfill says that placing solar panels there wouldn’t be practical.

North Attleboro Town Administrator Mark Fisher says the 52-acre former Courtois Sand and Gravel Co. property has closer access to distribution lanes. The town took possession of the property for back taxes.

North Attleboro Electric isn’t interested in developing the property. But a study says the property would be a good location for a private developer to build a solar farm.
