SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Bail for a Colorado teenager accused of beating his girlfriend to death has been set at $1 million.
Darwin Christopher Bagshaw appeared in a Utah state court Monday where Judge James Blanch granted the prosecution’s request that bail rise from $100,000 to $1 million.
The lower amount had been set by a juvenile-court judge before the case was transferred to an adult court.
The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/1JFBlWC ) says Bagshaw pleaded not guilty Monday. The newspaper says Bagshaw’s lawyer Christopher Brown argued against the bail change saying his client was not a flight risk.
Bagshaw is charged with first-degree murder in the 2012 death of 15-year-old Anne Kasprzak. Prosecutors say Bagshaw was 14 at the time.
The Associated Press doesn’t normally name juveniles, but Bagshaw is charged as an adult.
