SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The California Highway Patrol says three people died when a driver going the wrong-way on a Sacramento highway slammed into another vehicle.

The crash occurred early Tuesday morning on Interstate 80. CHP Officer Chad Hertzell tells the Sacramento Bee (https://bit.ly/1ATWpDP) the driver of a Ford 150 pickup was reported traveling eastbound in the westbound fast lane around 12:30 a.m.

CHP units started to respond, but could not prevent the crash. The driver of the pickup was killed.

The two men in the other vehicle also died.

The Bee reports that the driver of the pickup was so badly burned, investigators were unable to immediately determine gender.

Tuesday’s collision was the third wrong-way crash that claimed multiple lives in the Sacramento region in less than a month.
