PORT SULPHUR, La. (AP) - The body of a man has been pulled from the Mississippi River in Port Sulphur.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office says about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s Marine Division, with help from the Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District, recovered the body of an unidentified man about a half-mile north of the Port Sulphur Anchorage.

Around 1:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a call of a possible body float on the westbank side of the river near the Phillips 66 Alliance Refinery. A search began, but because of low light visibility and debris in the river, the search was cancelled at 4:30 a.m.

The search resumed about 7 a.m. A passing river pilot spotted the body and notified authorities.

An autopsy is scheduled Wednesday to determine the cause of death.
